Some places are not just travel destinations. They are experiences. They are stories. And sometimes, they are a beautiful mix of nature, peace, and faith.
During my visit to Nashik, I discovered one such place – Gangadwar, a peaceful hiking spot located just behind the famous Trimbakeshwar Temple. If you are planning a trip to Trimbakeshwar and you miss this place, you will definitely feel like coming back again just for this hike.
Let me take you along on this beautiful journey.
Where the Journey Begins

The best part about the Gangadwar hike is that it starts almost immediately after the temple area. Just a few minutes’ walk from the back side of Trimbakeshwar Temple, you reach the starting point of the trek.
And that’s where the real journey begins.
To reach Gangadwar, you need to climb around 750 steps. But honestly, it never feels like a difficult trek. Instead, every step feels like an invitation to something more beautiful ahead.
The place is called Gangadwar because it is believed to be the origin point of the Godavari River, often called the Ganga of the South. That spiritual connection makes the hike even more special.
Monsoon Magic on Brahmagiri Hill

I visited during the monsoon season, and honestly, it felt like walking inside a painting.
The entire Brahmagiri Hill was covered in fresh green grass. The stone steps were slightly wet from the rain. Clouds were slowly moving between the hills. And as we started climbing, the village of Trimbakeshwar began to look more and more beautiful from above.
What surprised me the most was the silence.
No crowd. No noise. Just the sound of wind, distant temple bells, and sometimes the soft music of flowing water.
A Peaceful Path with Hidden Surprises

As we continued climbing, the journey became more exciting. Along the way, we saw small temples, old stone structures, and peaceful walking paths that seemed to disappear into the mountains.
At one point, we heard the sound of a small waterfall for quite some time. And when we finally found it, it felt like discovering a hidden treasure. A small, beautiful waterfall quietly flowing between the rocks – no crowd, no rush, just nature.
Further ahead, we also found an old sacred kund (water tank) and a small natural pond. These little surprises made the hike even more memorable. It didn’t feel like just a trek anymore. It felt like a spiritual journey through nature.
The Moment When the Mountain Stands in Front of You

As we moved closer to the top, something interesting happened.
From a distance, the mountain looks far away. But suddenly, after climbing a few more steps, it feels like a huge stone wall standing right in front of you. It almost feels like the mountain is hiding a different world behind it.
At that moment, I was reminded of the famous Girnar trek in Gujarat. The steps, the feeling, the peaceful atmosphere – everything felt surprisingly similar.
And then finally, after a few more steps, we reached the destination.
Reaching Gangadwar – A Beautiful and Spiritual Experience

Standing at Gangadwar is a moment you cannot forget.
On the left side, you can see the entire Trimbakeshwar village and the temple. In front of you, there are beautiful green hills. And on the right side is the sacred spot known as Gangadwar – the place where the Godavari River is believed to appear after starting from the top of Brahmagiri Hill.
According to local belief, the river starts from the top of the mountain, disappears for some distance, and then reappears here at Gangadwar. That belief adds a deep spiritual feeling to the entire place.
And honestly, the view from here is simply breathtaking.
Why You Should Not Miss This Hike
If you are planning to visit Trimbakeshwar, especially during the monsoon season, make sure you do not miss the Gangadwar hike.
It is not just a trek. It is a peaceful escape from the crowd. It is a perfect place for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone who wants to feel calm and positive energy.
Most importantly, it is one of those places where you don’t just take photos – you take memories.
